Well, what do I say and where do I begin ? I will not rate this establishment any higher and only give them a one because they have good salsa and chips...and that's it. Coming from New Mexico and traveling to Mexico...this I tell you is Not Mexican food. It's Taco Bell on a plate! And really I'd rather eat at Taco Bell. It's cheap full of mystery meat and well tasty but dare I digress and forget knocking El Cerro Crapy! Yes that's what I call it. After ordering your "Mexican food" it arrives, fairly promptly, the ubiquitous and required Mexican, or could be El Salvadorian, or could be Columbian, or from Ecuador, who knows but authentic waiters for fluff and ambiance, can't have Mexican food without...Mexicans!!! Arrives, smiling and proffering your food... Sorry, I did it again, any way back on track, the food is sloppy, glued together with the only border seen between the food is where the beans meet the rice which runs into the enchiladas, covered in a blanket of gooey red sauce...and ech... If you want authentic Mexican food, go to Mexico, everything else is Americanized for your tender palates...but if you must have hybridized canned Mexican food by all means go...but not me...Adios amigos and enjoy!!!

This place was great. Me and my wife were out looking for another restaurant which happened to be shut down. While heading back to the Main strip to find something else to eat we noticed this place. The outside is very impressive and clean. As we entered the restaurant I started to be a little concerned with how great the placed looked. We were out looking for a cheaper place to grab a quick bite and we have walked into what appears to be on the more expensive side. We decided to still stay and check it out, and I'm glad we did. Prices for appetizers range from $3-$9 and meals from $9-$16 depending on what your interested in. As I said we were looking for a quick bite nothing too large or expensive. We both had decided on two $10 meals which isn't too bad , but then I noticed they had a "Grande meal" for $12.50 and it was more then enough for a quick meal. The food was very good and for the price it can't be beat. We have a local favorite back home that we swear by and this place is just as great. Service was outstanding and we only waited about 8 minutes for our food.

Not great. Just eh. For starters, they neglected to put vents in the waiting area. It was 1,000,000 degrees in there. The food seems to have gone downhill although it did come quick. After that the waiter must've taken a siesta. I've been to several of these at their different locations around town, but I won't be back to this one. For a few bucks more I could've had much better at Abuelos.

My favorite place for authentic Mexican fare. Usually I tend to prefer Americanized Mexican cuisine but this El Cerro is the BUSINESS. Cool decor inside, friendly staff and sweet mariachi music made me try to teach my kids Spanish while we ate the bottomless chips. That is until I realized I don't speak it either. El Cerro Grande is-o el-delici-oso. Ariba!~

Nice atmosphere. Perfect for a date or family. I came here for lunch and they have really good specials. Will definitely visit again. No complaints. The chips and salas is given to each table. Waitress are very polite.

This is the best El Cerro around. The service is great even when they are packed, which is often. The complimentary chips are light and perfectly salted. The salsa is on the spicy side. I like to get the cheese dip for 3.50 and mix the two together. Makes a perfect appetizer for the table. I've had their chicken enchilada, chicken taco and both their ground beef and chicken chile relleno. The chicken is better than the beef in my opinion. My husband has had the shrimp diablo (I think this was the item!) and the fajitas texanas. I tasted both and they were equally delicious. However, be warned that shrimp is spicy! If you don't like spicy things don't order it! Their refried beans are acceptable as is the rice. For two people at dinner we spend about $35 plus tip. Definitely check them out!

We must have come on an off night, given other reviewers ratings here. Service was weak and the food was flavorless. And what Mexican joint charges extra for jalapeños with the meal? Seriously. It was so cold in the restaurant our warm queso dip was solid before we could finish it. I give it 2 stars because we ate anyway because we were hungry. Meh. If bland Mexican is your thing you might enjoy but unfortunately we did not.

Great food, service and atmosphere! Ate here for dinner tonight and had chicken fajitas and taco salad. Everything was really good! Only request is that they have black beans as an option the refried beans didn't taste good :( I'm here on vacation but will stop by again before I head home

All the other 5 yelpers, as of this post, got it right. This place had great decor, open, friendly atmosphere. Food was served fresh, hot and fast. As the others have stated, the free chips and salsa are fresh and very tasty. I don't have much else to say that everyone else didn't say already. All three of our meals were excellent. Large portions and reasonably priced. THM (Take Home Message): Authentic Mexican cuisine. I saw multiple Spanish speaking families enjoying their food....I suppose that's as good as an endorsement as you can get. Definitely worth a try if you are on this side of myrtle beach.

Great new location in Surfside Beach. Beautiful decor. Food was great and the wait staff was very attentive. Prices extremely reasonable. Very enjoyable!

Location is beautiful but that is what you are paying for. Since they decided to build this new restaurant their portion size has diminished greatly. If you don't mind two-thirds of your plate being lettuce, guacamole, pico de gallo and beans then go for it. The food is delicious however you don't get enough of the actual entree for the money you spend.

This is my sister-in-law's favorite mexican place. They have a nice selection of your stereotypical mexican food... nothing super exciting. The service is always hit-or-miss... Sometimes the wait staff is attentive & other times they completely ignore you (and it doesn't matter if you are a party of two or eleven).

One of the best Myrtle Beach Mexican Restaurants, and there are a lot of them. Good, Authentic Mexican food ! Fajitas? you get a plate full that is at least 1 1/2 to 2 times as much as most other places. Enough to take home and have as a lunch the next day (if you're not all fajita'd out). Chimichangas melt in your mouth. Order the fried chimichangas with ground taco beef. it's not on the menu, but well worth the try! Only drawback is, they only have the one type of beens (the mushy kind), and they don't have an option of mexican mashed potatoes, like some others. But it is a minor thing when you have such delicious food. The Decor is amazing-Mexican Kitch! Lots of metal sculptures, and awesome chandeliers made out of hundreds of beer bottles. The decor of the bar makes you feel like you're going back in time to the "Revolucione". Staff was awesome. I'm temporarily on crutches, and they were all very helpful with doors, seating, etc. Overall, this location is a terrific place

My family 4 had dinner at El Cerro Grande and most of the food was a dissappointment. Kids meals looked terrible. Looks like they used frozen food for chicken fingers and the kids pizza did not look appetizing. Kids meals should not make a restaurant but this was not a good start. I ordered enchilada (cheese, beef and chicken) The cheese and chicken were OK but the beef was terrible. Taco Bell's beef is better. Same goes for the side beef taco one of my children had. My wife had shrimp and was just not good. The side of rice was ok and the nacho chips and sals were ok. Overall I would not recommend eating here but if you do stay away from the ground beef.

I'm giving El Cerro Grande two stars for service and taking off three stars for food quality. We went there with a large party of 10. Service was good; refills came promptly, we got lots of complimentary chips and salsa, and all of the orders were correct and arrived together. (I realize that should be a given, but sometimes with a large party it's not, so I want to give El Cerro credit where credit is due.) I ordered the Fajitas Texanas, which comes with shrimp, steak, and chicken. No issues with the chicken. But the steak had a slightly off flavor, like meat that's starting to go bad. And the shrimp had a noticeable ammonia smell/taste, which is a definite indicator of seafood that is well past its prime. I rarely leave negative reviews on here and I hate to ding a restaurant that really did provide good service for us, but I feel people should be aware of the food quality issues. Seafood should never, ever smell like ammonia. It's a huge red flag. So, sadly I can't recommend this place.

What can I say but EH!! It was ok. I noticed it was kinda dirty in there. The food wasn't to bad but not great either. I would look else where there are better options out there. The service was alright, but not overly friendly either.

Chicken chimichangas were yummy. Carnitas chimichanga was delish as well. Chips and salsa delish and the cheese dip was great. Eat here and it is sure to please you. Friendly staff and very clean.

We come here pretty regularly. Compared to the Carolina Forest and Kings Hwy locations this one is much nicer but service at the others tends a bit faster. It's standard Ameri-Mex food, not bad at all and some is really good. It's not authentic by any stretch though. Then again, this is Myrtle Beach and not Tijuana. I've never had a complaint with the portion sizes and always have food to take home. The bar is pretty well stocked and prices are good. If you generally think that Taco Bell is great Mexican eats at the perfect price then you might think this is a touch high and fancy. If you were raised in Mexico and were hoping for back home cooking, this will be close but not right on.

We were drawn in my the exterior of the building - very nice stone. The food on the other hand was ok. I had the enchiladas and was taken back with all the lettuce placed on top. The food was somewhat bland. I think we will try this place again but I will be ordering something else.

Good food and better service. Def one of the better "Authentic Mexican Restaurants" I've been too around Myrtle Beach. Lunch special offers are reasonably priced and you get plenty to eat. Complimentary chips and salsa are also a positive.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
